Advocates family is still here for those who need us

With millions of people are staying home to prevent the spread of the coronavirus. Yet, for some, staying home cause an increased risk of danger. Children are facing an increased risk of abuse and neglect, but many of these cases may go unreported while schools are closed. Parents are losing their jobs and struggling to provide for their families.

Our CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) and CCE (Court Youth Advocates) volunteers are not able to check in with these kids face-to-face and we are worried that the high stress in the home can lead to more abuse. Volunteers and staff are getting creative by connecting virtually with children and caregivers, ensuring they have information about food pickup sites, and craft dropping off bags at their doors to keep connected. Even during this crisis, they are there for their kids - even if it is only virtually. Our volunteers, staff, and supporters continue to ensure that these children are not forgotten while isolated during the pandemic.

If you suspect a child is being abused or neglected, call Indiana's Child Abuse and Neglect Hotline: 1-800-800-5556. It is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. You may report abuse and neglect anonymously. Use http://www.in.gov/dcs/2372.htm to access the information for local DCS offices.
